"In January of 2009
my daughter was seen at Scottish Rite. Her name is
Madie. Everyone was extremely kind and helpful. We
were well taken care of and have great respect for
what your hospital does. She was diagnosed with
scoliosis at age 7. Her doctor was Dr.
Carol. She was fitted for the Boston brace and
wore it several months. However after being told that
the likelihood of surgery was high (in the words
of Dr. Carol no one Madie's age in her
knowledge had not had to have surgery), my wife and I
decided to research other options and found a brace by
Spinecor. At this we were told that Scottish Rite
did not believe in the brace because there was not
enough research on it and what research was out there
was inconclusive and would not follow us if we chose
to use it. Again that was fine and we understand.
We chose to leave your hospital and use the other brace.
When first seen by you all she was at a 33 degree
curvature. Now, two years later and having used the
Spinecor brace, she is at a 13 degree curvature.
We are also being followed by Dr. Hostin at
Southwest Scoliosis Institute in Plano. The reason I
am writing this is not to in any way downplay what
Scottish Rite does or how we were treated while
there, but rather to give information to you in regards
to another method that has worked for us. We are a
real life case study and want to help others with this.
With the lack of research there is in the Spinecor brace
we thought that this might be useful information. I do
not have a way to contact Dr. Carol or her team, but
would love to pass this on to them and to
the bracing department. Below are x-rays from 2
years ago and from last week. Thanks for

"My name is Stefannie and I am 13
years old. At the beginning of summer 2007 I was
diagnosed with scoliosis. At first I did not know what
it was but Scoliosis Specialists explain to me that it
was a deviation of the spine. I got very
worried because I didn't know what to expect. During the
evaluation with the Scoliosis specialists, they told me
that I needed to wear a brace. I was upset because I
needed to wear this brace for 2 years and they said I
might need surgery if the brace treatment did not work.
I was more scared to wear a hard
rigid brace to school and have people laugh at me
then I was to have the surgery. But Scoliosis
Specialists recommended a soft flexible scoliosis brace,

wearing since Nov 2004. I have hardly any back pain and
as you know, there has been some improvement in the
curve. It took a while but I got used to it and I
appreciate the support it gives my back. A couple of

brace. The Orthopedic doctors said there was no therapy

being completely discouraged by the orthopedic doctors
that the hard brace they made for me was not going
to work and that I would be in a wheelchair by the time
I was twenty, I felt nothing but despair. It was already
a difficult thought for me to think I would be wearing

of My teenage life, but I was willing to do it, in order
